KARIM MARQUEZ IN MIDTOWN

Lambert Fine Arts presents "Karim in Midtown" by Venezuelan artist Karim Marquez
opening reception October 28, 6-9 pm at the Melissa Theater Academy on 244 W. 54th St.

New York, NY (September, 2011) — Join Venezuelan artist Karim Marquez for his third solo show Karim in Midtown where he will be showcasing a diverse array of work, including pieces from his newest series. Acknowledging Midtown Manhattan as a sanctuary for modern artists, Karim pays tribute to and makes accessible the legacy of the ‘40s and ‘50s art scene of New York City.
Of his show, Karim explains, “the show displays a 10 year body work that has been developed by different studies of the Abstract Expressionism school, to which I try to bring a fresh look and continue the tradition of non-objective painting.”
Karim’s goal as a visual artist is to extend this tradition by bringing a contemporary and fresh look to the viewer of non-objective painting and sculpture. His work is based on the concept of chaos as a balance of material transformation. With this in mind, he uses unconventional techniques and resources to create a harmony of form together with an aggressive and chaotic aesthetic. Referencing our primitive origins, Karim combines the primal and primary  sources that characterize and relate to the beliefs, values, behavior and material objects that constitute a people’s way of life. He desires to move away from the aesthetic ideal for art as the vivid portrayal of things. For him, art encompasses all the questions and answers of our chaotic universe.

Karim Marquez has been on the local city artist map for the better part of two decades. Since receiving his first degree in Visual Art at the Cristobal Rojas School of Art in 1995, he has been perfecting his craft through his continuing education as well as with opportunities to both participate in group shows and launch solo ones. His talents have been celebrated with various awards and scholarships, including the Juan Lovera Prize  from the Venezuela National Gallery, where he is also in the permanent collection.
